Edtech Gamification

From 2020 to 2024, I worked as a Design Lead at Russia’s largest children’s edtech company, a platform used by 14 million active young learners. There, I built and led a team of 10 designers, illustrators, and animators. Many of our games reached the platform’s top-selling list. Across the projects below, I contributed to game mechanics, UX testing, and design direction.

A roguelike adventure built from just 14 map sprites. The story is about helping magical forest folk. Some of them may seem scary or hostile at first, but the player can “defeat” them through kindness and care. Player reviews often highlighted the humor and charm of the story.

A virtual pet simulator designed to help primary school children learn English vocabulary with minimal reading. Players earn currency by studying words, then spend it on pet quests and new companions. The game became popular enough to inspire numerous YouTube videos where children showcased their pets.

The goal was to introduce basic science concepts to children who haven’t yet studied physics or chemistry. The result is a mystery-solving game with simple mechanics and light storytelling. Players learn through experiments, including mistakes that lead to humorous outcomes.

A farm simulator designed to help children learn the multiplication table. The field is based on a Pythagorean table, while harvesting, upgrades, and in-game currency provide motivation to return and keep playing.
