Gamification in Edtech

In 2020–2024, I worked as a design lead for the primary school segment at one of the largest edtech companies in Russia, where I built and led a team of 10 designers, illustrators, and animators. Many of our games reached the platform’s top-selling list.

Across the projects below, I worked on game mechanics, UX research, and visual direction.

Multiplication Farming Game

A simple, production-friendly app for learning the multiplication table. We designed a farm simulator where the field is based on a Pythagorean table. Players return to collect harvest, earn currency, and upgrade their tools. The art system uses customizable modules to keep production efficient and scalable.

English with Pets

The goal was to deliver an engaging game

for training English words with minimum of text

for primary school children. As a result we've built a virtual pet simulator where the users earn in-game currency by studying vocabulary. Game points can be spent on completing pet quests or buying new pets. The game became popular, with numerous YouTube streams featuring children showcasing their pets.

Fairy-tale adventure

We set out to create a session-based game with high retention, featuring folk characters and simple production. I also wanted the story to feel kind rather than conflict-driven.

The result was a roguelike adventure built from just 14 map sprites. The story follows a child lost in the woods who chooses to befriend folk “villains” instead of fighting them.

Player reviews highlighted the humor and the tone of the story.

Science Mystery Game

The goal was to introduce basic science concepts to children who haven’t yet studied physics or chemistry.

The result is a mystery-solving game with simple mechanics and light storytelling. Players learn through experiments, including mistakes that lead to humorous outcomes.
